Harper Woods (MI) 19257 Edgefield 2/6/10 : Harper Woods, MI – Sunday February 6, 2010 crews from the Harper Woods Fire Department responded to 19257 Edgefield on the report of a fire in an occupied apartment building.  Upon arrival of Harper Woods Engine 1 crews found an apartment building with heavy fire and smoke showing from a second floor apartment on the “A” side of the building.  A Special Call was made for crews from the Eastpointe Fire/Rescue, St. Clair Shores Fire Department and Grosse Pointe Shores Public Safety for a Ladder, Engine and Ambulance.  Harper Woods crews attempted an interior attack but were forced out of the building due to worsening interior conditions; fire had spread to the common attic space and was burning through the roof of the building.  Crews exited the building and set up a defensive attack, Eastpointe Ladder Truck was deployed and crews used deck guns to knock down the bulk of the fire.  Crews worked into the night to bring this fire under control.  Crews from Harper Woods, Eastpointe, St. Clair Shores, Grosse Pointe Shores, and Grosse Pointe Woods operated at this fire.

Detroit 3rd Alarm 11435 Schafer 1/29/10 : Detroit MI – Friday January 29, 2010 Engine 53 and Ladder 25 dispatched on a Still Alarm to check for a fire at an auto salvage facility, upon arrival E53 requested a Box Alarm assignment.  Companies from the 2nd Battalion responded to 11435 Schafer to the auto salvage for a fire in the garage area of the facility.  Numerous explosions from propane and acetylene tanks caused the fire to quickly spread to the rest of the facility.  Chief 2 requested a 3rd Alarm to the scene and declared the fire a Haz-Mat Level 3.  All Westside companies were committed to this fire.  Companies worked through the night to bring this fire under control.

Detroit Box Alarm 18065 Bloom 1/10/10 : Detroit MI – Sunday January 10, 2010 shortly after midnight Companies from the 8th Battalion responded to Bloom between E. Nevada and Stockton for a reported dwelling fire.  Arriving on the scene Engine 56 reported a fire in an occupied single family dwelling and they were stretching.  While en route to the fire Chief 8 requested Detroit Fire Central Communications Office dispatch a second Ladder Company with a working aerial as R.I.T, Ladder 16 was dispatched.  Crews were hampered by the severely cold weather; E56 reported to C8 that they needed E60 to stretch due to a frozen hydrant.  While crews were attempting to find water supply, E44 reported that the roof in the rear of the dwelling had collapsed.  Due to the poor water supply crews maintained a defensive posture, and lines were stretched to L30 to deploy their elevated waterway.  E60 reported poor water pressure from the hydrant that they were pumping from, C8 ordered E60 to stretch across E. Nevada to another hydrant on a different main, and requested Detroit Police for traffic control.  Crews from E44/56/60 L16(RIT)/30 S3 and C8 worked for over an hour to bring this fire under control.

Detroit Box Alarm 5232-34 Sheridan 1/4/10 : Detroit, MI – Monday, January 04, 2010 Companies from the 1st Battalion responded to Sheridan between Farnsworth and Fredrick for a reported dwelling fire.  While en route to the Box Alarm Central Office advised companies that they were receiving reports of children possibly trapped in the dwelling and EMS was being dispatched on the Box.  E23 arrived on the scene report that they had a fire in a two family flat and they were stretching.  Next arriving companies to this fire deployed their booster “red” lines to aid in the search for the possible trapped children.  Central advised C1 that he had three Engines two Trucks and Squad on this Box.  Upon size up C1 reported that he had an occupied two family flat with fire in the second story, and requested a 4th Engine for RIT, E9 was dispatched as the RIT.  EMS reported to C1 that the occupants of the structure were able to account for everyone and that no one was trapped in the dwelling.  Interior crews were reporting little progress, and were requested additional lines to the second floor, and vertical ventilation.  C1 ordered all crews out of the dwelling and an evacuation signal was sounded.  After all crews were accounted for, C1 ordered L10 to place their elevated waterway into operation.  Crews from E9(RIT)/23/41/46 L10/16 and S3 worked for over an hour to bring this fire under control.
